Fried puff pastry buns: perfect for a delicious breakfast!
published on 4 October, 2019 at 18:05
Fried puff pastry buns are a stunning morning treat, with layers of rich, flaky puff pastry dough swirled with a fragrant sugar mixture!
INGREDIENTS
INGREDIENTS
2 ½ cup flour;
1 tbsp dry yeast;
a pinch of salt;
1 egg;
200 ml (7 oz) warm milk;
2 tbsp vegetable oil;
1 cup melted butter;
vegetable oil for frying;
powdered sugar for serving.
METHOD
- To make the dough whisk salt and yeast into a large bowl with flour. Add an egg, some vegetable oil, and warm milk.
- Work the dough until smooth (around 10 minutes), then cover and set aside for an hour.
- Divide the dough into 7 pieces and roll each one out as thin as possible (it should get transparent).
- Cover your working surface with a portion of melted butter and place the first sheet of the dough on it. Stretch a little, brush with butter and add another layer of the dough on top, stretching it out to fit the first one.
- Continue with leftover dough. Cut the layers making 8 rectangles. Pinch both sides of each rectangle, stretch a little and make a tube. Roll both ends of the tube moving into the center as shown in the video.
- Fry each “bun” in preheated vegetable oil until golden, then serve dusted with powdered sugar.
