George Floyd, miracle of love in Minneapolis: thousands of donations for children in need
published on 5 June, 2020 at 19:22
While protests have continued in the city, following the death of George Floyd, outside this middle school, a generous army of solidarity has delivered over 30,000 bags full of food for poor families after the plea of the Sanford Middle School, in Minneapolis in the United States. They are young students and volunteers of all ages, those silent heroes, representing the other side of the coin in this sad story of racism and violence and igniting a spark of light just when the last scrap of humanity seems lost.
Perhaps not everyone knows that in the poorest districts of Minneapolis, Minnesota at least 200,000 children live in conditions of food insecurity and they are paying the highest price for the pandemic combined with the turmoil that is happening. In fact, with the ensuing protests, local food stores were looted and burned and those in need were left without food not having a vehicle to go anywhere.
So Sanford Middle School spread the appeal on social media urgently requesting 80 meals for pupils in need at school and for their families but nobody would have expected this miracle of love. The callout spread through every radio and TV after receiving so many shares and the next day in the school parking lot there were over 30,000 bags.
