Italy’s sweetest honey: Giorgio Poeta, the beekeeper who treats bees with love
published on 20 May, 2020 at 12:29
Sometimes we don’t choose our destiny. It’s destiny that just knocks on our door. For Giorgio Poeta, that moment came shortly after his high school graduation, when his father gave him 2 boxes full of bees. At that time, Giorgio didn’t know that soon these two hives would become 400, bringing him closer to the fantastic world of bees and making him one of the best beekeepers in Italy.
For Giorgio and his bees, it was love at first sight. So Giorgio started raising his little bees by taking care of them and giving them everything they needed. But Giorgio wanted to leave his mark by doing something unique. He wanted to give more value to the role of his beloved bees. So, he decided to produce the first honey aged in barrique. And for those who want to follow in his footsteps, Giorgio has an advice: “I recommend starting slowly, getting experience, going to a teacher. It is an activity that has indirect positive effects like no other: that is, bringing bees to certain locations and giving life to a territory, as we are doing in the mountains. I don’t think it has any economic implication that can cover all the joy of seeing these places come back to life".
