Banana pudding fluffy cake: the result will leave you speechless!

Fluffy and creamy, this cake is divine! 
 
INGREDIENTS
For the base:
 2 egg yolks;
 4 egg whites;
 90 g (3 oz) sugar;
 120 g (4 oz) banana, pureed;
 100 ml (3.5 fl. oz) milk;
 120 g (4 oz) flour;
 1 tsp baking powder;
 1 tsp vanilla extract;
 ¼ tsp salt.
 
For the custard:
 330 ml (11.5 fl. oz) milk;
 2 eggs;
 90 g (3 oz) sugar;
 2 ½ tbsp cornstarch;
 1 tsp vanilla extract.
 
METHOD
  1. Start with custard. Whisk all of the ingredients listed in a small pot with a thick bottom. Make sure there are no lumps. Place a pot over the medium-low heat and cook the custard for 4-5 minutes or until thick. Whisk the custard nonstop while cooking.
  2.  Pour the custard into a bowl and cover with plastic. Set aside to cool completely and whisk fine before using it.
  3.  For the base beat egg whites with salt, adding sugar in portions, until stiff peaks form.
  4.  Whisk eggs, milk and banana puree together. Separately combine flour and baking powder.
  5.  Fold egg and banana mixture and dry ingredients into the airy egg whites. Pour into a squire 20x20 cm baking pan and bake for around 45 minutes at 160C/320F. Check with a toothpick.
  6.  When the base has cooled down, spread the custard all over and slice into squares before serving.
