ZEBRA CAKE: the soft and spectacular dessert! 😍
published on 10 February, 2026 at 12:31
The Zebra Cake is a visually stunning yet simple-to-make dessert, perfect for breakfast, a snack, or a special occasion. Its main feature is the striped pattern that forms by alternating light and dark batters, reminiscent of a zebra's coat. With just a few ingredients and a bit of patience, while layering, you can surprise both kids and adults with a soft and delicious cake, ideal for any time of the day.
INGREDIENTS
240g (1 1/4 cups) of sugar
6 eggs
120g (1/2 cup) of yogurt
120ml (1/2 cup) of milk
200ml (1 cup) of vegetable oil
300g (2 1/3 cups) of all-purpose flour
16 g of baking powder
A pinch of salt
2 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tbsp of all-purpose flour
METHOD
1. In a bowl beat the sugar, eggs, and a pinch of salt for at least 5 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
2. Pour in the milk, yogurt, and vegetable oil, and mix everything well with the mixer.
3. Sift in 300g of flour and the baking powder. Mix with the mixer until the batter is smooth.
4. Divide the batter into two equal portions and place each into separate bowls. Add the sifted 2 tbsp of cocoa powder in one bowl, and in the other bowl, add the sifted 2 tbsp of flour.
5. Using the electric mixer, start incorporating the cocoa into one batter and the flour into the other.
6. Butter a 24cm round cake pan. Start by placing 1-2 tablespoons of the light batter in the center of the pan. Then, add 1-2 tablespoons of the dark batter in the center of the light batter. Repeat the process, layering the light and dark batters alternately, until both batters are used up.
7. Place the cake in a preheated static oven at 180°C (350°F) and bake for about 35 minutes on the lower rack.
8. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool before serving.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
