CHRISTMAS TREE BROWNIES: beautiful to make during the holidays!

INGREDIENTS
For the brownie crust:
180g (3/4 cup) butter
220g dark chocolate
20g (1/4 cup) cocoa powder
2 eggs
220g (1 cup) sugar
120g (1 cup) all-purpose flour
8g (1/2 tbsp) baking powder
70g chopped hazelnuts
For the royal icing:
1 egg white
Lemon juice
160g (1 1/4 cups) powdered sugar
Green food coloring
For decoration:
Colored candies
Powdered sugar
METHOD
1. In a bain-marie, melt the butter and chocolate over low heat. Add the cocoa powder and mix to incorporate. Remove from the heat and let cool.
2. In a bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until fluffy. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture and continue mixing with an electric mixer. Add the flour and baking powder and mix to combine. Finally, fold in the chopped hazelnuts with a spatula.
3. Pour the mixture into a baking tray (20×29cm) lined with parchment paper and level the surface with a spatula. Bake at 180°C/360°F for 20 minutes.
4. Once baked, transfer the brownie slab onto a cutting board. Cut it horizontally in half, then use a cookie cutter to cut out tree shapes.
5. In a small bowl, combine the egg white, lemon juice, and powdered sugar. Beat with an electric mixer until you obtain a royal icing. Divide it in half and add the green food coloring to one portion.
6. Decorate the brownie trees by piping lines on top with both the white and green royal icing. Add the colored candies while the icing is still soft.
7. Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
