Bread sunflowers: beautiful, fragrant and delicious!
published on 16 May, 2023 at 16:30
INGREDIENTS
420g (2 ½ cups) all-purpose flour
5g (2 tsp) fresh yeast
40ml (2 tbsp) vegetable oil
4g (1 tbsp) honey
240ml (1 cup) lukewarm water
3g (½ tsp) salt
1 egg
Poppy seeds
METHOD
1. Preheat the oven to 190°C/374°F.
2. In a large bowl whisk warm water with honey and yeast. Separately combine flour with salt.
3. Add yeast solution into the flour, pour in vegetable oil, and mix everything well. When the dough comes together, form it into a ball and let it rise for 2 hours.
4. Cut the dough into 6 pieces and roll each into a ball. Set aside for 15 minutes.
5. Lightly dust the dough balls with some flour and press each ball in the center using a spice container. Cut 12 slices (‘petals’) around the edges of the dough and remove the spice container. Pinch two ‘petals’ together to form 6 individual petals.
6. Transfer bread flowers onto a parchment-covered baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and decorate with poppy seeds in the middle.
7. Bake for 20 minutes.
