published on 21 July, 2018 at 10:48
Ingredients:
250g Flour
2 Tbsp Black Pepper
1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Paprika
2 Tbsp Salt
2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper
1 Tbsp Onion Powder
250ml Milk
250g Potatoes (nothing too large)
1 Large Onion (at least 250g)
Instructions:
Combine the flour, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, half of the salt, cayenne pepper and onion powder in a large bowl.
Take half of this flour mix and add it to the milk and mix to form a batter.
Finely slice your potatoes into rounds.
Wash of the starch in cold water then season with the remaining salt.
Cut off the top and bottom of your onion, just enough to tidy up.
Then cut into 8 segments ensuring you do not cut all the way to the centre of the onion.
Tease open the leaves to form a flour shape, then slide in a slice of onion between each leaf of onion starting at the outside and working your way in.
Place on a slotted spoon and then pour over the batter we made earlier.
Then sprinkle over the flour and up turn to drain off excessive batter and flour.
Deep fry in oil at 190°C or 350°F for 10 minutes until crisp.
Serve with a sprinkling of parsley and sauces for dipping.
