How to make puffed rice at home, it's so simple!
INGREDIENTS
INGREDIENTS
For the puffed rice:
200g (1 cup) long grain rice
250ml (1 cup) water (for soaking)
425ml (1 3/4 cup) water (for cooking)
1/2 tsp/6.25g sugar
Sunflower oil
For the bars:
200g milk chocolate, melted
METHOD
- In a medium bowl soak rice in a cup of cold water for 10 minutes. Discard the water.
- Rinse the rice: put it in a bowl and add enough water to cover, swirl around with your hand or spoon. Keep rinsing until the water runs clear.
- Pour 1 3/4 water into a pan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, add rinsed rice and cook on low for 30 minutes.
- When the rice is cooked, spread it on a sheet of absorbent paper towels and let it dry for a whole day.
- Once the rice has dried, pour the oil into a pot and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 191°C/375°F.
- Put a handful of rice into the oil and fry it for 5-10 seconds. Use a slotted spoon or small strainer to remove the rice and place it onto a paper-towel-lined plate. Continue with the remaining rice.
- Place puffed rice into a bowl, pour melted chocolate on top and mix well.
- Transfer the mixture into a mold lined with plastic wrap, press it slightly and let chill for 2 hours.
- When puffed rice has chilled, unmold it and slice it into squares.
