7 years ago cake for Prince Louis's baptism: the unusual royal tradition
published on 13 July, 2018 at 12:04
Prince Louis was baptized on 9 July but we’re still talking about the event. In the last hours a unique detail has been leaked about the celebrations organized by the Royal Family: to celebrate this special day is the same cake William and Kate had for their wedding 7 years ago.
Nobody was expecting a 7 year ago dessert, dating back to William and Kate’s wedding in 2011. At the time the wedding cake was created by Fiona Cairns, it was decorated with white icing and whipped cream, 900 flowers, ice leaves and had cost well over 70,000 euros. In spite of what one might think, it is not a choice made to save money but a precise royal tradition dating back to the 19th century, according to which the Windsor family must serve the wedding cake at the baptism of the first child. The two, however, took it a step further and recycled the wedding cake for all three heirs. How can it still be edible after such a long time? Alcohol was added every month, so that mold and bacteria were killed.
