Crackers have holes: there is a specific reason

All crackers have holes in them. Some are placed differently, some of them have more holes and some have less, but they all have them. Few people know that however the presence of those holes is not for an aesthetic reason, but rather a practical one. Indeed, thanks to those holes, bubbles can be avoided. Otherwise, they may not cook properly: the holes allow steam to escape and in this way the crackers remain flat, instead of rising like a cookie.
