If you’re looking for an easy, impressive teatime pastry (or dessert) to serve on special occasions or holidays, these apple roses are just what you are looking for. They can be served for afternoon tea, as a sweet appetizer, or as a full dessert (don’t forget a scoop of ice cream on the side!). With a few basic ingredients like puff pastry, apples, apricot jam, cinnamon, and powdered sugar, these apple roses are not only easy to make but make quite the impression on guests.

Tips

Instead of apricot jam, you can also use other fruit preserves, or use caramel (like dulce de leche).

If you want, you can leave out the puff pastry, and use crescent roll instead.

Make smaller roses, by slicing thinner strips of pastry, and using a mini muffin tin. You might need to chop the apple into smaller pieces before cooking.

If the roses brown too quickly, add a loose piece of foil on top to prevent further browning.

If you don’t have a muffin tin, you can also use small cups or ramekins.

How to Store Apple Roses

Leftovers can be stored at room temperature (in an airtight container) for up to 2 days. Reheat it in the oven for a few minutes before serving.

Can I Make It Ahead of Time?

Once baked, the apple roses are best eaten immediately. If you want to make them ahead of time, you can assemble and roll the roses, and keep the unbaked rolls in the fridge. Bake before serving.

Ingredients
1 roll of puff pastry
2 apples, cored and peeled
Sugar
30g (2 tbsp)
Cinnamon
2g (½ tsp)
Butter
15g (1 tbsp)
Apricot jam
20g (1 tbsp)
powdered sugar for serving

How To Make Apple Roses

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F. Line six holes of a muffin tin with paper cupcake liners. Peel the apples and remove the core.

Chop apples into small pieces.

Cook the apple pieces with butter, sugar, cinnamon, and jam for 5 minutes over medium heat.

Allow the mixture to cool down for around 20 minutes.

Roll out and slice the puff pastry into 6 strips.

Place a spoonful of the apple filling on top of each strip, then roll carefully.

Place each roll into the prepared muffin tin cup.

Bake for 30 minutes at 180°C/350°F until the pastry is golden and cooked through.

Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
