How to keep your supermarket basil last longer: some tips to take care of your plant
published on 8 September, 2023 at 15:00
Maybe your supermarket basil plant dies after a few days. Don't worry! We have some tips for you to make it last longer.
First of all, you need to know that the basil bought at the supermarket does not last long for a number of reasons: more basil seedlings are crammed into a single pot without space to grow, the lights and location in the supermarket are not suitable, they suffer drastic temperature changes and are not watered regularly.
Divide the seedlings in the supermarket pot, and transplant them individually into different pots or a very large pot.
After a few days of settling, the roots will finally have the right space to grow
Place the pot in a sunny place, but not under the direct sun, otherwise, the leaves may burn.
Watering is essential: Basil needs water, but not in excessive quantities, just make sure you keep the soil moist by touching it with your finger.
It is better to water it twice a day in summer and once a day in winter.
Be careful when picking leaves: they should not be collected individually! Use scissors to cut the twigs directly, this will delay the flowering that slows the growth of the leaves.
