Orange peel powder: a natural method to give a unique flavor to your cakes!
published on 10 February, 2023 at 20:40
INGREDIENTS
For the powder:
5-6 large oranges
For the cake:
200 ml (¾ cup) milk
4 eggs
200 g (¾ cup) all-purpose flour
180 g (¾ cup+2 tbsp) sugar
60 g (¼ cup) butter, melted
6 g (1 ½ tsp) baking powder
a pinch of salt
8 g (1 tbsp) orange powder
METHOD
1. For the orange powder, preheat the oven to 100°C/212°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
2. Make slits on the orange just to cut through the peel. Peel each orange carefully, then cut out as much white part of the peel as possible.
3. Layer orange peels onto a baking sheet and transfer into the oven to dry out for around 1 hour 30 minutes or until completely dry.
4. Blend orange peels into a fine powder using a coffee grinder.
5. For the cake, beat sugar and eggs until pale. Add orange powder.
6. Whisk flour with salt and baking powder separately. Add dry ingredients to eggs, and mix carefully. Scoop some batter into another bowl.
7. Het up milk with butter and mix it with a small portion of the batter. Pour it back into a large bowl of batter and mix well.
8. Pour the batter into a 20 cm baking pan and bake for 40 minutes at 180°C/350°F
