There are many different buns and flatbreads, and each region (and home cook!) has a recipe for their favorite. These yogurt buns are flatbreads that are not only super easy to make but tasty too! They can easily be cooked on the stovetop without the need for an oven.  Enjoy it with your favorite curry, or stew, or with a simple spread of hummus and grilled chicken.

Tips

  • If you want to make smaller yogurt buns, you can do so by diving the dough into 12 pieces.
  • You can also use this dough to make pizza!
  • Cook the flatbreads until you start to see bubbles forming on the surface before flipping them over.
  • Use full-fat Greek yogurt for the best results.
  • A heavy-bottomed pan (like cast iron) will work best for this recipe as it retains heat well. This is necessary for the thick flatbreads to be cooked thoroughly.
  • To make it cheesy, you can add grated cheddar cheese to the dough, or add grated cheese to the cooked buns, and place it under the grill for a few minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
  • The thickness of the buns determines the texture! Thinner buns will be crispier, while thicker buns will be slightly chewier and more fluffy.

How to Store Yogurt Buns

Store the flatbreads in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also store the uncooked dough in the fridge for about 3 days. Alternatively, the dough balls can be frozen for up to 3 months. Just make sure to wrap them tightly with plastic wrap.

Can You Freeze Yogurt Buns

Yes, you can! Allow the buns to cool, then transfer them to resealable Ziploc bags or an airtight container, and store in the freezer for up to 2 months.

When you want to serve the Garlic Naan Breads, allow them to thaw and reheat in the microwave. Brush with garlic butter and serve.

Ingredients
All purpose flour
500g (4 cups)
Yogurt
240g (Âľ cup)
Water
220ml (Âľ cup)
Baking powder
10g (1 tbsp)
salt
3g (1 tsp)

Instructions

In a large bowl whisk yogurt with water, vegetable oil, and salt.

In another mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic. Grease your hands with vegetable oil and form the dough into a ball. Set aside for 10-20 minutes.

Flatten the dough slightly on a floured surface.

Cut the dough into ten equally-sized portions.

Roll each into a ball and set aside for 10 minutes.

Roll out each ball with a rolling pin.

Cook the flatbread in a pan over medium heat.

Cook until the flatbreads are puffy and golden on both sides.
