5 tips to pick a sweet watermelon at the supermarket

1- Look for the yellow field spot, you can see the point where it has been laid during the growing process. If this spot is white or light yellow, it means that it's unripe. If it's (deep) yellow, it's ripe.
2- The skin shouldn't be shiny. During the growing process the (hoarfrost, a) coat that makes the watermelon look shiny, gradually disappears. When it becomes opaque it's ripe.
3- Look at the brown spots, this shows how many times the bees have pollinated the flowers before the ripening. The more you find, the sweeter it will taste.
4- Check the stem. If it's dry, it's ripe, if it's green, the watermelon has been harvested too early.
5- Knock. According to tradition, when you knock on the watermelon, if the sound is dull it's ready to be eaten!
