Who doesn’t love fried chicken? And if you're in the mood for a comforting and savory snack, look no further than this battered fried chicken. This bite-sized treat is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, making it the perfect snack for movie nights or game days. The best part? It's incredibly easy to make at home. Simply toss the bite-sized pieces of chicken in a batter blend, stir to coat them completely, and fry until golden brown. Serve the Battered Fried Chicken with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch or honey mustard, and enjoy the perfect balance of salty, crunchy, and tender flavors. With this recipe, you'll never have to go to a fast-food chain to satisfy your popcorn chicken cravings again.

Battered Fried Chicken Variations

Use chicken thigh fillets instead of chicken breast, they won’t dry out as easily.

For the batter, you can also use your favorite seasoning (taco seasoning, BBQ spice, fajita seasoning, Cajun spice, etc.); if using a blend that already contains salt, leave out any additional salt in the recipe.

Make the chicken pieces crispier by coating them in Panko breadcrumbs before frying.

For a cheesy, savory flavor, add parmesan cheese to the batter.

Tips

Chicken breast is a type of lean meat, which means it can dry out quickly. To prevent this, don’t overcook the chicken pieces. As soon as the fried chicken registers 165°F (74°C), it’s cooked and safe to eat. If you cook it any longer, then you will end up with a dry piece of meat.

Cut the chicken into pieces of even thickness to ensure they cook evenly.

Make sure to use an oil suitable for frying at higher temperatures. These include canola, peanut, sunflower, corn oil, and more. If you want to reuse the oil, allow it to cool, and strain it. You can use it a few times more for fried chicken.

How to Store Battered Fried Chicken

Store leftover chicken pieces in an airtight container (in the fridge) for up to 3 days.  Reheat them in the microwave or bake them in the oven if you want to keep them crispy. The Airfryer will also make the chicken pieces crispy again!

Can I Freeze Breaded Fried Chicken

The breaded chicken can be frozen and uncooked. Cover the chicken pieces with batter, then place on a sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Place in the freezer for about an hour or so, then transfer to freezer safe plastic Ziploc bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Cook directly from frozen.

Can I Make Battered Fried Chicken in the Airfryer?

Yes, you can! Preheat the Airfryer for 5 minutes at 400°F. Place the battered chicken in the Airfryer basket and spray with oil. Then air fry for 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F, making sure to turn halfway!

Can I Make It Ahead of Time?

Battered Fried Chicken is best served immediately after frying, but they can be kept warm in a low-heat oven (about 170-200°F). Not too long or they will dry out.

What To Serve With Battered Fried Chicken

Serve the fried chicken pieces with your favorite dipping sauce such as BBQ sauce, Ranch Dressing mustard sauce, or ketchup.
