These apple roses can be served as a delicious treat, appetizer, or even as a fancy decoration on top of a cake. With a few basic ingredients like puff pastry, apples, apricot jam, and powdered sugar, you can whip up a beautiful dessert in no time.

Simply place soaked apple slices on strips of puff pastry, roll, and bake! The result? Sweet, flavorful roses with soft apples, and crispy puff pastry! These apple roses are the perfect pastry to serve at parties or if you just want to wow your friends and family! You’ll feel like a fancy French pastry chef – but no one will know your secret!

Apple Rose Ingredients

Apples – depending on the size, you will need about 3-4 apples. Although any red baking apple will work, look for Honeycrisp and Pink Lady, as these will give the best results.

Puff pastry – use store-bought puff pastry from the frozen foods section; allow to thaw completely before using

Apricot jam – you can use any other fruit preserve

Powdered sugar – this will be used for dusting at the end

How To Make Apple Roses

Start by prepping the apples. Soak thinly sliced apples in lemon water and microwave on high for 3 minutes to soften. Slice the puff pastry into strips, cover with the jam, and place the apple slices on top, making sure that they overlap somewhat.

Carefully roll up the strips, and place in a greased muffin tin. Bake until cooked through and dust with powdered sugar.

Tips

If you don't have a microwave, you can sauté the apples in butter for a few minutes until just slightly softened (not completely!)

Instead of jam, you can also use a mixture of butter, sugar, and cinnamon. You can also use caramel instead of apricot jam.

If you want, you can leave out the puff pastry, and use crescent roll instead.

Make smaller roses, by slicing thinner strips of pastry, and using a mini muffin tin.

Serve the apple roses on their own, or add a scoop or ice cream or whipped cream.

If the roses brown too quickly, add a loose piece of foil on top to prevent further browning.

To make sure the apples are evenly sliced, you can use a mandoline.

How To Store Apple Roses

Leftovers can be stored at room temperature (in an airtight container) for up to 2 days. Reheat it in the oven for a few minutes before serving.

If you want to make them ahead of time, you can assemble and roll the roses, and keep the unbaked rolls in the fridge. Bake before serving.
