What is Lady Finger Cake?

This dessert is perfect for hot days when you don’t want to be stuck behind a hot stove. The flavors are similar to that of tiramisu, with chocolate, ladyfinger cookies, and coffee. But with no raw eggs!

It’s super easy to make: simply make the pudding mixture, and layer it with soaked ladyfinger cookies! You can refrigerate the cake until you’re ready to serve, which means it’s great for making ahead of time.

Lady Finger Cake Ingredients

  • Ladyfingers – Ladyfingers are also called Savoiardi biscuits, so look for those in a store near you.
  • Milk – use full-fat for best results
  • Sugar- granulated sugar
  • Cornstarch – make sure to use cornstarch (also called corn flour) and not cornmeal!
  • Cream Pudding – Cream pudding is the powdered type of pudding that you make with milk. It’s usually in box packaging in the baking aisle of stores.
  • Cocoa Powder – use natural, unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Coffee – strong espresso coffee
  • Dark Chocolate – balances out the sweetness of the dish

Tips

If you’re making this dessert for adults only, why not add a bit of liqueur? Simply soak the lady fingers in a mixture of milk and Kahlua liqueur.

For the crust, you can use vanilla wafers, Oreo biscuits, or graham crackers.

Make individual lady finger cakes, by layering the cookies and pudding mixture in small ramekins instead of one large dish.

For added texture, sprinkle with crushed buts before serving.

How to Store Lady Finger Cake

The Lady Finger Cake can be made a few days ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to 4 days.

Yes, you can! Wrap the pudding cake tightly with plastic wrap and freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge before serving.
